Mathematician Leonardo Pisano, also known as Leonardo de Pisa, was born in about 1175 in Pisa as a son of the merchant Bonaccio (meaning "good-hearted"). In 1202 he wrote a book titled "Liber Abaci", "book of the abacus". With this book he introduced the Arabic numbers in Europe. In this book he solves all kinds of daily life problems, using Arabic algebra. He also describes the construction and architecture of the snail-shell.
